The Power Of Sound Sound is the most powerful force. Sound brings hundreds of people together and makes them jump, move, run, laugh, cry, scream. Sound makes things happen. It's powerful. There are two catogeries of sounds: material sound and non-material sound. Material sound is the strongest force that locks us into our false identity. Non-material sound is the strongest force that wakes us up to our original identity. What's the difference between material sound and spiritual sound? The difference is in what subject the sound is focused on. Material sound revolves around the activities of bodies. Talk about the rich bodies, the famous bodies, the funny bodies, the sexy bodies. Spiritual sound on the other hand is not centered on material activities, but focused on the Supreme Non-Material Identity. As much as material sound locks us into material life, non-material sound frees us from it. This spiritual sound is the heartbeat of the new revolution. So then what exactly is it, and how can we get it? Any sound or book (since the written word is a symbolic form of sound) that centers on Non-Material Truth is worthy to be heard and recited by those aspiring to true rebelliousness. Although there are countless such works, specifically recommended is the first volume of an ancient Vedic text called Srimad Bhagavatam. Also highly recommended is the "Song of the Supreme Personality of Godhead" (a.k.a. Bhagavad-gita As It Is) As well as other translations, writings or tapes of His Divine Greca A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada and his sincere and determined disciples. Sound is powerful, and of all sound the most powerful are those known as mantras. A mantra is a sound-group in precise syllabic combination, rhythm and inflection. Vedic literature informs us that one who deeply knows the science of mantra can do anything and everything, from creating a localized thermo-nuclear detonation, to curing diseases, to fully liberating the soul from material imprisonment. Amongst all sounds, mantras possess the greatest potency to effect change. Amongst all mantras there is one particular vibration of superexcellent intensity. Its potency to effect change extends far beyond physical reality. When properly and attentively heard and recited, this one sound can incinerate the chains of "I and mine" and break the bondage of self with this phantasmagorical world. It can propel us into a position so completely independent of the senses and body that we are easily able to step forth and assert a revolution, fully independent of and uncontrolled by the corrupt system. This super-powerful mantra is the heart of a true revolution, the revolution of the consciousness, and any serious reformer is implored to practice regular daily hearing and recitation of its vibration. This mantra is: Hare Krishna Hare Krishna Krishna Krishna Hare Hare Hare Rama Hare Rama Rama Rama Hare Hare Anyone who engages in careful hearing and recitation of spiritual sound, particularly the super-potent mantra described above, will gradually find themself increasingly freed from the bodily platform of existence. As this happens, the addiction to sense gratification gradually decreases and finally disappears. Close
