When one refers to another as a "passive person," he means someone who lacks zeal, who is not concerned with the outside-world, or with the problems and trials of others, and who makes no effort to seek solutions to their problems. One who is passive lives unto himself, immersed in his own little world. This book explores the nature of this human type, one who consciously adopts this lack of commitment, a degree of moral depravity which he then tries to impart to the rest of the community. Such people, who aim to demoralize the Muslims, while living amongst them, may maintain they believe, but exhibit the attitudes of the hypocrites and those with a sickness in their hearts. Or, they may be of weak faith, and have not properly grasped its meaning, and failed to justly assess Allah. Those who give priority to their own interests over the Muslims' and that of Islam use Allah's name only to further their own interests, falsely assuming that they can build their agenda on this false piety. In consequence, after becoming aware of the detrimental results of the indoctrination efforts of the passive, it is of vital importance that Muslims remain attentive to such attempts and take the necessary measures. Devout Muslims, who make the Qur'an and the Sunnah of our Prophet (saas) their guide, will not, by the grace of Allah, fall under the influence of these suggestions, but continue their efforts in the way of Allah with fervent optimism. Allah has promised the sincere believers that He will grant them success, as He did to those who came before them, a promise which greatly strengthens their zeal and determination.

The religion brought by Prophet Jesus (pbuh), the true religion of those who believe in God as the One and Only God, was distorted after his elevation to God's presence. In societies distant from religion, right is often presented as wrong, and vice versa. Unbecoming behavior which will not please God may be favored and encouraged. Whoever you may be, there is an enemy who is a devoted threat to you, who wishes for you eternal torment, having dedicated his whole existence to that end. That enemy is Satan. That is, Satan whom Allah cursed and expelled from His presence. He is your greatest foe. Nor is he a mere myth or legend, but a real being. He has been in existence throughout human history. Millions who lived and died have succumbed to his wiles and been thrown into the flames, and continue to do so. He makes no distinctions among his victims: young or old, male or female, a head of state or beggar... He is against all human beings.

"Seeing the good in all" is actually a fairly common phrase. In the course of their daily lives, people will frequently say, "There must be some good in this" or "It is a blessing from God." However, people generally mouth these phrases without understanding their true significance, or merely to follow societal conventions. The purpose of this book is to encourage man towards adopting the proper moral principles by which he will say, "There is good in this", not by mere words, but with his wisdom, and showing patience in the face of difficulties with heartfelt submission and gratitude, rather than merely enduring the situation.

All people are created with negative moral tendencies that direct them toward selfishness and egotism. If one’s lower self is not trained, this selfishness will take control of one’s moral character. However, people can overcome their lower self by understanding belief in Allah and practicing the Qur’an’s moral teachings. This book examines the nature of self-sacrifice from all angles. You will see for yourself that self-sacrifice is a moral virtue that must dominate a believer’s life and that it must be lived in its totality to win Allah’s favor.

One verse tells us that God “created everything and determined it most exactly” (Qur’an, 25:2). There are countless signs present in the universe of this perfect order, some examples of which are given in the Qur’an. Water, food, sunlight, day and night, a beautiful view, mountains, a pleasant face to look at… These are only a few of the signs on earth. The animal traits, which we are usually not capable even to mimic, are some other sings of God’s artistry of creation. Some of the locations where prophets lived through history, and the cities where Prophet Muhammad (may God bless him and grant him peace) lived are also noted in the Qur’an. The signs contained in natural disasters are reasons to consider the weakness of humans before God, and to pay heed. Signs in technology, on the other hand, are blessings for which people should thank God. Subjects dealt with in this book are just a few examples of God’s creation, all of which show us the infinite power of our Lord.

Let us for a moment think of an aspirin; you will immediately recall the mark in the middle. This mark is designed to help those who take a half dose. Every product that we see around us, even if not as simple as the aspirin, is of a certain design, from the vehicles we use to go to work, to TV remote controls. Design, in brief, means a harmonious assembling of various parts in an orderly form designed for a common goal. Going by this definition, one has no difficulty in guessing that a car is a design. This is because there is a certain goal, which is to transport people and cargo. In realisation of this goal, various parts such as the engine, tires and body are planned and assembled in a factory.

The lives of the Prophets, their calls to their nations, and their actual practices as related to us in the Qur'an are examples for the believers to follow. Furthermore, the Qur'an contains signs for the future and some mysteries upon which the believers must reflect. Such is the case with Surat al-Kahf, one of its suras. Prophet Muhammad (saas) and many Muslim scholars have pointed out Surat al-Kahf for this reason. The Qur'an's account of the Companions of the Cave (Ashab al-Kahf) and Ar-Raqim, Prophet Musa's (as) experiences with Khidhr (as) (the person of knowledge), and the account of Dhu'l-Qarnayn (as) contain many secrets and expressions hinting at the End Times. Many prophetic hadiths connect Surat al-Kahf with the End Times. In one of them, our Prophet (saas) said: "Whoever enters his (the Dajjal's) Hell, let him seek refuge with Allah and recite the opening verse of Surat al-Kahf, and it will become cool and peaceful for him, as the fire became cool and peaceful for Abraham." (Ibn Kathir) Surat al-Kahf contains the signs required for the believers' defense and fight against the Dajjal and the irreligious movements bringing so much evil to humanity, which he wants to spread around the world, as well as many lessons from which the Muslims can learn. Our Prophet's (saas) recommendation to memorize and read this sura attentively is a clear indication of this. The purpose of this book is to make readers ponder and meditate upon Surat al-Kahf, which contains very important signs for today, in order to gain insight into these secrets and to abide by the Prophets' (saas) advice. Attentive readers will see that this sura bears the signs of the End Times, a time near the Hour, during which the practices of systems of unbelief and falsehood become widespread and Allah sends forth the truth to destroy them. By Allah's will, this time is very near, so much so that it has become crucial for people to reflect upon this matter. Thus, Muslims must ponder Surat al-Kahf carefully, bear its verses in mind, and analyze each verse in light of the Qur'an's other verses.

One of the facts Allah reveals in the Qur’an is that the universe has been created and that it will come to an end. The universe will, as will human beings and all other living things, come to an end. This appointed time is called the “Hour” in the Qur’an and it has been described in detail. The events that will happen prior to the Last Day have been revealed in the Qur'an.  This fact is clearly understood from the verse:  What are they awaiting but for the Hour to come upon them suddenly? Its signs have already come. What good will their Reminder be to them when it does arrive? (Surah Muhammad: 18) In order to understand the signs of this “great announcement” we must reflect upon the verses. Otherwise, as the verse indicates, our thinking will be of no use when the Last Day is suddenly upon us. Some of the hadiths of our Prophet (saas) deal with the signs of the Hour. In these hadiths of the Prophet (saas), there are both signs of the Hour and detailed information about the period just preceding it. This book examines the signs of the Hour through the verses of the Qur’an and hadiths of the Prophet (saas). And it shows the fact that these signs have begun to appear in our present time. It should also be kept in mind that Allah knows the truth about everything. As with all things, what we know about the end of the world comes only from what He has revealed to us.

According to the Qur’an, neither working hard, nor growing weary, nor achieving respect or love from others is regarded as criteria of superiority. Rather, it is their belief in God, their good deeds done in order to gain His consent, and their goodwill, nurtured in the depths of their hearts, that are regarded as the criteria of superiority. The Qur’an reveals that all of Allah’s messengers and other devout people who called their societies to abide by the Qur’an’s morality stood accused of avarice, madness, arrogance, theft, and fornication. By Allah’s leave, however, every piece of slander has come to nothing. These people always displayed exemplary patience and reliance upon Allah when confronted with slander, disregarded such efforts, and continued to live by the morality ordained by Allah and invite people to the righteous path.

Around the globe, the majority of people are among the oppressed. They are tortured, butchered, and live in abject poverty, are homeless, are forced to live their lives unprotected from the elements and they face disease without adequate medical care. There are those who cannot even afford a loaf of bread. There are the elderly, facing neglect, abandonment and denied medical care. The sole way of being conscientious is by having faith. It is only the believers who constantly live by their consciences.
