In the commentary on Rg Veda by Sayana, it is said :

"With deep respect, I bow to the sun, who travels 2,202 yojanas in half a nimisha."

A yojana is 8 miles.
A nimisha is 16/75 of a second.

2,202 yojanas
x 8 miles
x 75/8 nimishas

 = 165,150 miles/sec

One mile is 1,852 meters, i.e. 1.852 kilometers.

Thus:

165,150 miles
x 1.852
-------------------
 = 306,000 km/sec


Modern science claims the speed of light to be aproximately 300,000 kilometers per second.
